Sophia Amoruso: Welcome To This New Thing We Launched

But many moons ago I realized it was time for us to move onto a dynamic, more immersive, faster, more mobile-friendly, search-friendly, and brand-elevating experience for our community. And that is what we’re unveiling today.

When I started Girlboss in earnest as a business a year ago and hired a couple amazing women, I had no idea what I was doing. We had this thing that looked like a blog, a conference that I’d invited every woman I knew to speak at, and were sold out of tickets for this thing called the Girlboss Rally that I was totally unqualified to put on. We had a crack team, hardly enough money to make the event happen, and a few risk-taking brands signed on to support us.

Then came our President, Alison. And a handful of amazing women: Meghan, who runs audience development, Chloe, our art director, Jerico, our editorial director, Lindsey, our account manager, and a few others. And we started trotting. Shuffling, really. Moving a bit faster than we had before, but in a direction we couldn’t quite pinpoint on a map. We moved out of the live/work loft that was formerly inhabited by a professional dog walker and into a real office.

We had a crack team, hardly enough money to make the event happen, and a few risk-taking brands signed on to support us.

Today, we’re 20 women (and one great dude) strong, and running. We have digital media and tech veterans who also happen to be millennials. It’s a lot of work, but our vision is clear, which makes it fun. We’re doing something important. We’re increasingly inhabiting a white space that a book and our community built over the past four years. We have an unfair advantage.

What I mean to say is thank you to our amazing team for making this happen. To Neha Gandhi, our editor-in-chief and COO who masterminded this new experience we are all so lucky to share. To those I couldn’t name here and for those who are to come.

And to you for getting us here, opening our emails, engaging with our content, talking to us on social, and attending our conferences. There’s lots more to come, but we’re off to a great start and hope you’ll keep running fast into the future with us.
