A Former Coveteur Editor’s Secret To Taking Big Risks Without Fear

The world of digital media and influencers changes quicker than you can refresh an Insta feed. Ahead of it all is Stacie Brockman, one of the OG editors of The Coveteur, and now co-founder of Métier Creative. Below, she shares what keeps her creative brain ticking.

The Coveteuris one of those entities that’s so ubiquitous in the fashion and beauty industry that it feels like it never had a beginning; it simply just was. But in fact it’s been just shy of seven years that the platform for all things behind-the-scenes launched, and it’s become an influential and, *ahem,* coveted media entity.

On the ground of that launch was Stacie Brockman, who started out as an intern and eventually climbed the ranks to become the managing editor and business development manager there. For three years, she was the driving force of its social media and editorial platforms that boast followers in the millions, while overseeing the wrangling of talent.

In other words, Brockman knows a thing or two about this wild world of digital media and branding. In 2015, alongside her friend and Covetuer alumnus Erin Kleinberg, she founded Métier Creative, an advertising agency that specializes in launching new brands and executing re-branding for existing companies. And over the course of two years, they’ve won some of the biggest names in the biz, including Tiffany & Co., CMG, Dior and Estée Lauder.

So what makes a branding expert who’s seen it all tick, when she’s got access to all the latest and greatest pretty much all the time?

Power Mantra.

“DGAF.”

“I’ve always been about realistic expectations and coming to terms with the “worst possible outcome” early on; once you know how bad it couldbe, everything else seems doable and manageable. So, I always try to be bold, a bit risky and totally tuned out to negativity when it comes to making moves.”

Skin Care Essential

“I’m a Sephora VIB Rouge, YouTube-obsessed kind of gal (and not afraid to say it), so my skin saver list is quite extensive. Here are three of my superheroes, though: Kate Somerville ExfoliKate Cleanser Daily Foaming Wash; Caudalie Beauty Elixir; SkinCeuticals Hydrating B5 Gel.

Can’t Miss Podcast

How I Built This: “There’s nothing more inspiring than hearing the real struggles and successes of other entrepreneurs.”

Happy Place Outfit

“Either Free City (because I’m still stuck in 2006) or vintage Roots, which are easily well over a decade old.”

Currently Reading

Literally Me by Julie Houts. If you don’t follow @jooleeloren on Instagram yet, do yourself a favor and do so ASAP. Then, buy her book. My friend Sara surprised me with this as a gift and I’ve already convinced three friends to buy it.

Currently Listening To

The new Sam Smith album, The Thrill Of It All, on repeat. Daniel Caesar, John Mayer, Bon Iver or my “Camp NBB Circa 2000” playlist on Spotify.

Productivity Hack

Knowing every Gmail shortcut. It makes emails easier (the “undo” button is my best friend!) and having a meticulously organized iCal to coordinate my life, which is attached to Waze. Fun fact: It sends updates when you need to leave to make it places on time.

Most Opened App

“Instagram. Erin Kleinberg (my best friend, co-founder and business partner in crime) says I’m the unofficial grandmother of Instagram because I keep tabs on everyone and everything happening. I have more convos via DM than probably iMessage or email.”

Good Hair Secret Weapon

It’s been a privilege to work with our friend, Jen Atkin, to launch and grow this brand to cult status in such a short period of time. I can’t play favorites when it comes to the product line, but if I had to choose: Wave Spray; Texturizing Hair SprayTreatment Masque.

Flats, Sneakers, Or Heels?

Sneakers, always. Loafers, when sneakers won’t cut it. Boots, when I need to be professional and tall, but still care about comfort.

Self-Care Method Of Choice

A long walk with my dog, Ollie. Or a spin class at FlyWheel, followed by a massage (ideally at The Now in LA) and a Lavender Epsom Salt bath. And, in a dream world, a long-ass nap.
