Everything That Went Down At Girlboss Rally 2019

And just like that, our fifth Girlboss Rally is officially in the books, and consider us *emotional*. It was definitely a labor of love, and this community showed up in a huge way—sharp, curious, and ready to connect.

Because it was our biggest event of the year, let’s just say we wentespeciallyhard. From stellar speakers like Michelle Phan and Rupi Kaur to a stacked schedule of panels, networking, workshops, and more, the two days were filled with learning, inspiration, and connection. And we’re  hoping all of you left the Rally feeling prepared to tackle your next big goal armed with a few new skills, and a support system that will cheer you on along the way.

And speaking of community: you *may* have heard that we officially launched the Girlboss network,a social platform for ambitious women with big dreams. This is a place to connect with like-minded women, meet your future co-founder, get answers to your toughest questions, and basically, keep the magic of the Rally alive year-round. We’ve been working quietly, but tirelessly, on this launch for over a year now, and we can’t wait for all of you to join us. This will change the future of Girlboss (with your help, of course!). ICYMI, get more info on the Girlboss network, here.

The Girlboss Rally 2019 highlights reel

We picked the brains of brilliant women

The line-up this year was particularly stacked with superstars who had something to say, with panels and conversations featuring Sophia Amuruso, Michelle Phan, Rupi Kaur, Maria Menounos, Paris Hilton, Whitney Cummings, Piera Gelardi, Sallie Krawcheck, and more.

And officially launched the Girlboss social network

IT’S. FINALLY. HERE. You’ve probably heard inklings about the Girlboss social network over the last few months, but we officially flung open the doors at the Rally—and we can’t wait for you to be a part of it.Register here and join us now.

We hosted an entire art fair showcasing work by creative, inspiring women

Curated by Girlboss and The Other Art Fair, this year we spotlighted the work of 15 brilliant women artists whose work aligns with the theme “back to her roots.” In partnership withTUMI, we were honored to create a space for women that exposes their artwork to even more exceptional women. These women drew inspiration from their origin stories to help us better understand where we’re going. Because where we come from lays the foundation for each of our futures.

We smiled for our close-ups and got our Boss Shots taken

No, “Boss Shots” is not the name of a great cocktail (although, we’re making a mental note for the next Rally?!). Shout out toSephora Collectionfor hooking us up with seriously stunningprofessional headshots, with a Girlboss twist. Our shiny, new Girlboss network profiles thank you.

Michelle Phan got real about ambition and anxiety

The beauty mogul took the main stageto share her journey to realizing that burnout doesn’t need to become a recurring factor in her life. Much like the rest of us, she celebrated big wins without taking much time to process—and now she wants to make sure other ambitious women don’t make the same mistakes. Phan also talked all things wellness, healthy approaches to scaling a business, and why travel can be so transformative. “After traveling I gained clarity,” she said. “The moment you travel you realize the world doesn’t just work in the way that you were told. That gave me peace, that I could make different choices than what I was told,” she said.

A big thank you toCathay Pacific Airwaysfor making this talk possible, (and offering 5 percent off your next flight to Asia using the code GIRLBOSS!).

We talked about strategies for overcoming societal barriers

In a powerful moment of connection—with other groundbreaking women, and ourselves—and in partnership withTRESemmé, Girlboss brought our favorite psychologist, Dr. Lauren, to the main stage to give a master class in identifying and conquering the societal barriers that can hold us back.  She led a powerful conversation that explored the nuances of self-esteem and cultivating the power within, and how it includes physical, emotional, and intellectual maintenance. We’re especially excited about this because Girlboss and TRESemmé both share a common mission to advance women’s representation in leadership, and provide visionary young women with funding, training and mentorship to help them achieve their goals. Lots more to come on that front soon…

We gave networking some heart

One of the most important purposes of the Rally is to create a space where you can form authentic connections, not just transactional ones. There were plenty of chances throughout the weekend to link-up with URL friends IRL—and make new ones altogether, including at the Shed Your Label, Show Your Worth session, sponsored byDiet Coke, where attendees were encouraged to rethink the ways in which they show their worth and value.

We took financial literacy to the next level

We partnered withSoFito host financial workshops and money therapy sessions, with an aim to give women different spaces to get answers to their most personal, and pressing financial questions. We brought together conversations about everything from paying off debt to investing, to dealing with taxes as a freelancer.

And in Leadership Hall, we added a bit of programming, knowing that your ability to invest and save is limited by how much you know—so, we asked the personal finance company’s Alexandra Dickinson to lead a negotiation workshop to arm us all with the strategies that will help us get a yes, the next time we ask for more.
