Space Invader: Sarah Gibson Tuttle and Olive & June
Hey there, queens of the universe. Nasty Galaxy dropped on Tuesday this week (!!!); have you snagged your copy of this linen-bound, full-color, brimming-with-advice, cocktail-party-in-your-lap? It picks up where #GIRLBOSS left off and dives into all the inspirational, bizarre, funny, endearing, glamorous (and a few definitively unglamorous) nooks of Sophia’s life. It’s all in there, and we can’t wait for you to see it.
In the weeks leading up to the release, we’ve been taking you on a journey around L.A. to get to know some of the baddest mamajamas in the galaxy who inspire Sophia on the regular. So far, we've stopped in to visit Nicole Katz of Paper Chase Press, Amanda Chantal Bacon, founder of Moon Juice, Helen Johannesen of Helen's Wines, stylist Djuna Bel at her gorgeous home and Jessica Koslow of Sqirl. We'll be finishing up the series tomorrow; check back to see where our final stop is, and don't forget to pick up your copy of Nasty Galaxy via Nasty Gal, Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and wherever books are sold!
You might've picked up on the fact by now that we're big advocates of self-care; you gotta take care of you before you can show that to-do list who's boss, so whether you've got a hankering for a bubble bath, a rosé bath, a giant bag of fun-size Snickers, or a couple of hours of garbage TV, we say go for it; a little indulgence is the WD-40 to your creaky, over-worked hinges.
One of our favorite self-care paradises is Olive & June, a.k.a. the sweetest nail salon you've ever seen. Founded by Sarah Gibson Tuttle in 2013, Olive & June has developed a devout following based not only on dreamy mani-pedis, but oh-so-impressive attention to detail when it comes to customer service. Don't like having your cuticles pushed back because you have tender nail beds? They'll keep that on file for you. Obsessed with a certain brand of nail polish? They'll make note of that too and let you know when they've got new product in. Since opening its flagship store in Beverly Hills, Sarah's gone on to open two more stores in Pasadena and Santa Monica, and all three are a light-filled, sense-soothing havens. We stopped into the Beverly Hills shop with Nasty Galaxy for some quick-fix R&R before heading out on book tour. Check it out!
To you, what is a Girlboss?
She knows who she is and what she likes. And she supports other women to no end.
Tell us a little bit about your space. What inspired the aesthetic?
Working with Wall For Apricots, we really tried to create a space that felt as cozy as your best friend's house while still feeling as stylish as possible.
What role do you see Olive & June playing in the galaxy of LA?
Hopefully we can keep making nails happy across LA (and beyond!) forever.
